each season (fall & spring), the san diego state university waterski & wakeboard team hosts a tournament, and it is tradition for the hosting team to make a corresponding t-shirt for their tournament. sdsu typically hosts the spring opener, otherwise known as "teskila." the client proposed a t-shirt with a design playing off of "waterski magazine" with a special request for a featured "hot-dogger" skier.

the first draft of the shirt design was in black & white, with three subheads and a skier in front of a setting sun (the location of the tournament was "Sundown"). upon review, the client gave more specific information on the event to include as subheadings as well as a request for color.

upon finishing the magazine design, it was time to consider a chest emblem. I proposed using the same skier with the sunset in the background in a hexagonal container. the client then requested that we try something a little more different, keeping the shape and background, but using a different skier silhouette.

I came up with two different solutions, and the team held a vote on which design they felt fit their vision better. we ultimately went with the design on the left.

the final designs were placed on a pink colored shirt that matched closely to the originally chosen hue. shirts included long sleeves, t-shirts, and tank tops. the client then reached out to me again to alter the design in black & white so it could be applied to koozies as prizes for the winners.

the design was ultimately applied to a denim koozie in white and yellow.
